The capital attracted the most overseas investment over 5 years

The City of London received the highest proportion of overseas investment between 2013 and 2017, at an estimated £8.6bn, according to a new report by the City of London Corporation.

The investment created an estimated 16,126 jobs and 248 projects.  Most of the investment was spread across Corporate and Investment banking, but the majority of jobs were created in the Retail Banking sector.

The report cited London’s air connectivity, business environment and cost effectiveness as factors in its standing within the global financial industry and receipt of the highest overseas investment during the period when compared with eight other financial capitals around the world.

Catherine McGuinness, policy chairman of the City of London Corporation, said in a press release -   "The U.K. leads the world when it comes to exporting financial services and we have a number of strengths that appeal to investors”.
