CASS Skill Sets
CASS Skill Sets
With the final changes to the CASS rules due for implementation on 1st June this year, there is still some last minute demand in the job market for CASS specialists. People with CASS and Client Money experience have been hot property for some time now, but what skill sets are needed to fill these high profile roles?
Management level CASS roles are often filled by qualified accountants or similar financial specialists with strong CASS regulatory knowledge and a relevant senior operational background. Often a CASS Manager will have previously held CF10a responsibility within a fund management, platform or brokerage environment, for example.
CASS Analysts have tended to specialise within operational roles involving Client Money and/or Custody and will have developed a strong working knowledge of the CASS regulations. Skill sets that employers look for will also include:
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to use system tools to identify and resolve exceptions
Experience in an oversight function or a technical role within operations
Experience in reconciling positions and resolving exceptions
Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively to prevent compliance breaches
A background in a similar regulated environment
It remains to be seen how many companies will be ready to take on board the final CASS changes in June, but one would expect the demand for CASS specialists to exist for some time yet.
