Do We Still Need External Recruiters?
Do We Still Need External Recruiters?
As a recruiting employer there is generally one overriding reason for not seeking external help – cost. It’s possible that you have a natural distrust of recruitment agencies or just feel that you can do a better job on your own, but if cost wasn’t an issue the chances are that you would outsource the search and pre-selection part of the recruitment process to a trusted external specialist.
By going alone, have you the employer have made a decision, conscious or otherwise, to put price above quality? Here are some common justifications for recruiting direct, countered with some admitted bias on my part:
· “We advertise our vacancies on our Careers page” – so your reach extends only as far as those candidates who have seen your advert
· “We advertise roles directly on external job sites” – you are excluding passive candidates from your search
· “We attract candidates from our Linkedin network” – so you’ll only see candidates from your network
· “We use internal recruiters” – do they have expertise in your industry?
· “Our business Managers source candidates” – do they have time to use all available means of candidate sourcing?
· “We attract plenty of good candidates without using agencies” – maybe, but are you attracting the best candidates possible?
One to discuss.
