Job Vacancies Falling in the UK, but…
According to the recent REC/KPMG Report on Jobs, vacancies continue to fall in the UK. Whist not wanting to underestimate the difficulties being faced by jobseekers at the moment, there are a few glimmers of hope within the detail of the report.
· Vacancies are falling at a slower rate
· Recruiter placements into permanent roles fell only slightly month on month
· Market uncertainty continues, but there are reports of some employers maintaining hiring plans in the face of global unrest
· Modest hiring growth in London is reported
· A number of businesses are sitting on cash which can be put to use as soon as confidence returns
All of the above means little to a jobseeker in an urgent situation, but for the market as a whole it provides the slightest indication that we are close to the bottom of the curve.
